1. Punakha Suspension Bridge
The Punakha Suspension Bridge, which spans the Mo Chhu and Po Chhu rivers in Bhutan, is the country’s second-longest and one of the oldest suspension bridges in the world. Originally attributed to Thangtong Gyalpo, the bridge has been renovated over the years and serves as a vital connection between Punakha Dzongkhag and the rest of the valley, linking the villages of Samdingkha and Wangkha. Adorned with prayer flags, it offers a picturesque setting for birdwatching and photography. While it is solidly built, the bridge sways thrillingly during strong winds, adding to its allure and excitement.
The bridge stretches for approximately 160 to 180 meters (525 to 590 feet) in length, making it one of the longest suspension bridges in Bhutan. It hangs at an elevation of around 100 feet (30 meters) above the river.
The primary purpose of the bridge is to connect the Punakha Dzong (also known as the Pungtang Dechen Photrang Dzong) to the nearby villages. It serves as an essential transportation route for the locals.
2. Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang
Located in the Punakha District of Bhutan, Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup Lhakhang is a renowned religious complex.
